The environment

Certified quality and environment system

Port of Pori operates under the following certified standards: quality management standard ISO 9001, environmental management system ISO 14001 and occupational health and safety management standard OHSAS 18001.

The quality and environmental system is based on the operating policy drawn up by the management of the Port of Pori. The operating policy sets objectives in the fields of quality, safety and environment, as well as short-term objectives achievable through the introduction of different development programmes. The system covers the management, operative functions and traffic services of the Port of Pori.

The Port of Pori is one of the leading Finnish ports as far as the quality of operations and services and environmental protection are concerned. The Port started work on quality and environmental matters in 1995, when the ISO 14001 environmental system was introduced. At the same time the port started the implementation of a quality management system in compliance with the ISO 9002 standard.

Investements in dust minimizing loading and unloading systems

Port of Pori has invested in various solutions that help to minimize the dust emissions generated by the bulk traffic. These investement allow to

  • minimize the loss of cargo
  • protect the environment
  • improve work safety.

In Tahkoluoto a new closed loading system was built in 2006. Due to the closed system the cargo will be kept away from sunlight all the way from the factory to the point where it reaches the LAIVAN RUUMA.

In 2009 a new dust-minimizing unloading system will be finished also in Mäntyluoto harbour. The system will be used for the unloading of copper and nickel concentrates.
