The unloading of about 1600 vehicles in the Mäntyluoto harbour in Pori is scheduled for the week 6. This is the first time passenger vehicles are unloaded in Mäntyluoto. The cars will be stored in the Port of Pori temporarily while waiting for transit to Russia.

The total traffic in Port of Pori in 2008 almost met the expectations set for the year. Bulk cargo was in increase especially in regards to metals and oils. The amount of recycled metal handled at the port was also larger than in 2007. December 2008 appeared to be the 2nd busiest in the port's history with 771 000 tonnes. This was partly due to the high volumes of coal transported on that month.

The environmental investments in Tahkoluoto appeared to be efficient as the cargo unloaded with the new bulk unloading system was in increase. Also, the chemical traffic increased significantly: the amount of sulphuric acid handled at the port was 180 000 tonnes  larger than in 2007. Indeed, there seems to be need for the new chemical harbour that was opened in Oct. 2008.

Liner traffic by MSC was started between Antwerp (Belgium) and Mäntyluoto harbour in Port of Pori. The first visit was made by m/v Reinbek on 19/01/2009. The other vessel serving the line will be m/v Eilbek. Both of them are 1600 TEU. The scheduled loading/unloading will take place on Tuesdays (evening shift). The contract  was made between Oy Hacklin Ltd and Oy MSC Finland Ab on 08/01/2009.

Plenty of available land available in the Oil & Chemical Harbour and in other sites of the Port of Pori. For more information, contact Port Director Mr. Jaakko Nirhamo, tel. +358-44-701 2601 or email jaakko.nirhamo(at)pori.fi.

New chemical harbour was opened in Tahkoluoto harbour on October 30th, 2008. Also a seminar on the topic of "Efficient and Safe Chemical Harbour" was held for the crowd of over 60 people.

Material of the opening seminar:
1. Chemical Harbour of the Future, Senior Advisor Elvi Hakila, Environment Centre of Southwest Finland
 2. Safe and secure Chemical Harbour, Manager Erkki Kotiranta, Neste Shipping Oy

A quote of Mrs. Elvi Hakila: "The Tahkoluoto harbour in the Port of Pori has an almost ideal location. It is easily reachable from the sea and land and close to the port there are no nature conservation areas."
