Collections

In the beginning of year 2003 the number of listed items in the collections of the Satakunta Museum was about 80,000. The collections contain prehistoric, ethnographic and cultural history material. Most of the objects are related to the past of the City of Pori and the Satakunta region. The material in the collections covers various aspects of human life, from prehistoric times to the present, from gallstones to the perpetuum mobile.

The museum has also extensive collections of art, weapons, coins and medals. Worth mentioning of the cultural history items are the large collections of chair types, silver, tin and copper objects, and collections of textiles such as ryijy rugs, tykkimyssy caps, and wedding gowns.

Examples of special local items are sketches for frescoes for the Juselius Mausoleum by Akseli Gallen-Kallela, and a miniature model of Pori from the time before the last great fire in 1852. Special sets of items also include the Pekkala countryside shop, furnishings of four rooms of the home of F.A.Juselius and the Satakunta lounge and committee room from the home of the writer Maila Talvio.
