The City of Pori supports Pori Pride in several different ways. Pori Pride was rewarded with an event grand by the city, with comments of the event promoting equality and thus doing commendable work. On Saturday, rainbow flags will also be flying on the city owned flag poles in the city centre, for example by the market square, Raatihuone and the main library. All Pride week events listed here are free of charge, unless otherwise stated.
Throughout the Pride week, Pori main library has collections of curated LGBTQ+ literature and music on display in their children and youth, adults, and music sections. These collections also include English pieces.
An art exhibition JULLE: Synnyin tällaisenä (”JULLE: I was born this way”) by the artist Julle Salminen is on-going until 6th of August in the main library’s exhibition venue at the main lobby. The exhibition hopes to remind us that we are all equally important and worthy
On Friday from 3PM to 6PM, a pin badge workshop is held at the children and youth section of the main library. You can make your own Pori Pride or LGBTQ+ proud pin badges. The workshop welcomes all ages.
Friday also brings culture and parties to Kulttuuritalo Annis. Vinokino movie event from 5PM to 6PM hosts a variety of LGBTQ+ short films. All films are either in English or subtitled in English. Summaries of the movies can be found on Pori Pride’s Instagram here. The age limit to the movie event is 12 years of age. Drag and burlesque Pride-klubi club night will kick off at 7PM.
The main Pori Pride party is held at Eetunaukio and Kävelykatu pedestrian promenade on Saturday from 1PM to 4PM. There will be live music, speeches, different stalls and coloured chalks to make art with onto the pavement.
Also on Saturday from 11AM to 6PM, Pori Art Museum hosts an on-going workshop. In the workshop space, communal art will be made about people and rainbows, and how every one of us is an actual treasure just the way we are. The workshop is included in the entry fee and is suitable for the whole family.
